We all know that oranges are a good source of vitamin C, or at least we do now! But, did you know there are other garden vegetables you can grow that also contain this vitamin?
Kale
Kale has become very popular for use in sautéed dishes and smoothies because of its health benefits! This vegetable has nearly an entire day’s worth of the recommended amount of vitamin C in just a single cup.
Kohlrabi
This one is from the Cruciferous family – think broccoli and cauliflower. One cup has 84 milligrams of vitamin C! That is a lot of bang for just one cup.
Bell peppers
These are a powerhouse for vitamin C. Vitamin levels will vary depending on the color of the pepper, but they’re all good for you!
Chilli peppers
Chilli peppers are a good source of vitamin C, but be careful not to eat too much!
Strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries
These three varieties of berries have high vitamin C content.
Parsley
Parsley is not only a good source of vitamin C, but of vitamin K as well.
Thyme
This vegetable contains more vitamin C than most culinary herbs, with 160 milligrams per 100 grams. Toss some onto your salad, pasta, or pizza!
The list could go on, but I think you understand how you can get your vitamin C and other vitamins just from your garden! Happy planting, and keep growing! 🙂
