Insulated Cold Packing

Insulated Cold Packing is the key to shipping fresh produce. We use multiple methods depending on the product we are shipping and the time it needs to stay cold. Most of our shipments are FEDEX Overnight (standard or priority) occasionally we will ship two day if it is a very durable product.

How We Do It

Inside our box you will find that we have encapsulated your product in insulation. We use a foil based product or foam (EPS) based product, both are safe and effective for up to 48 hours. Your pre-chilled produce is then packaged in vented bags or clam shells and carefully placed within the cooler. To keep your product cold we strategically place frozen gel ice packs, which are wrapped in paper to absorb condensate, in the cooler and amongst the produce. The total number of gel packs is dependent on the type of produce, the size of the box and the time we need to keep the produce cold. Then we fill the balance of the box with additional filler and padding so your product is completely protected from “bouncing around”, due to the careful handling of the shippers (Ha, Ha). When you receive your produce it will still be cool and garden fresh. As a bonus you get to keep and reuse the gel packs, just throw them back in the freezer.

When You Receive Your Produce

Upon receiving yourgourmet produce we recommend that you follow these simple instructions so your produce will remain garden fresh for a longer period of time:

  • Carefully unpack the box
  • Inspect each package of product (you will notice some condensate in most of the packages).
  • Open each bag and clamshell so they can air out.
  • Place them in your refrigerator or cooler.
  • After about 15 minutes most of the condensate should be gone and you can re-close the packages.

Now, enjoy the incredible colors, flavors and textures of your garden fresh gourmet produce - YOU DESERVE IT!

Understanding Your Shipping Charges

Everyone who receives fresh produce pays shipping charges. Some are hidden in the final price of the item and some are added at the bottom of the invoice as a direct reimbursable expense.

By breaking the cost of shipping out of the price, we found that we could save our customers a lot of money. So after years of including the cost of shipping in the price of the produce, we chose to make it a direct reimbursable expense.

Two Important Points

  1. Our shipping rates are the best in the industry. We attempt to calculate your shipping costs to equal our discounted rate so what we pay is what you pay.
  2. If we can send you a full box your savings will climb even higher.  The more you buy the less you pay in shipping per pound.
